How do you be sure that things stay good?
I mean, do you leave it plugged in, while changing them?
Or, will I have to reinstall anything?
Thanks.
Nate
You may have to reset the clock and day/date, but your programs will remain intact. That's been my experience.
OK, I changed it, and it now cycles "At work computers" and restarts over and over.
How do you do a CTRL ALT DEL or whatever it is, to reboot this?
Thanks in advance.

Just like anything, hold down the power button for about 10 seconds and it will cold boot the mother. You may not end up with all your data at the end of it though.
Progress Report:
I changed the battery, and the new one had no charge in it.
It kept cycling through it's startup routine, but could not make it.
So, I removed the new battery, put the old one back in it. It cycled, and restarted normal.
Conclusion: the NEW battery must be charged BEFORE installing it. The new battery has 3.75 volts in it, (It is a 4.8 volt pack) The "Old" battery has about 4.75 volts in it (It is nearly completely discharged)
So, now, how do I add a charge to a 4.8 volt pack, BEFORE installing it?
Hmmmm look around at some of the transformers here!
Nate
Put in the ranger and charge it normally.
OK, I finally got it.
I got it booted up normal, and exited from TDS Survey Pro, and turned it off. Leaving the charger hooked up, I quickly switched batteries, and it rebooted normaly, after running through the AT WORK COMPUTERS screen.
Turned it off, and let her sit. She is getting juice now. She feels lots better.
Me too!

Our supplier told us to charge them overnight prior to installing.
I think precharging is the RIGHT way to do it. I snuck this one through.
