on Sunday.

A good use for my Transit; project the image onto white paper. Can't use my Total Station because I want the EDM to keep working.

It will be partial in Sacramento. It will be Annular in Redding (4 hours north of here) and Chico.

I've used my old transit before, but found the higher magnification in the level (38X vs about 10X) works better. Just gotta goof around with the tripod to get the vertical right. But you're right about not using a total station, as it will fry the EDM

I'll be on the South side of Lake Mead (Meadview, AZ) at about 4,000 ft at my little getaway trailer. Should be pretty good. Thought of driving up to a high peak, but kinda like just sitting in my nice shaded yard.

I started out with an attachment made from clothes hanger slip over the scope a most instruments and to thread a loose leaf sheet to see the sun and the shadow of the cross hairs. I have it hanging in the closet.

Now I have two SOKKISHA OF1 solar filters that fit my guns.

For tomorrow I fitted one to Nikon camera that is mounted atop Lietz SDM3E fitted with the other filter.

Will try these a few hours before the event to see what setting and focus work best.

This is the not a good area for viewing and may not be possible at all. It is supposed to happen at near sundown.

Lubbock appears to be the prime area in Texas.

I think my transit is about 20x.

I don't have a level. There are lots of old levels for cheap on Ebay. My boss has 3 old levels in his office. He likes to acquire them because they can be had very cheap at Auctions and so forth and most lay people think they are cool anyway.
