I heard today that the TSC3 will not work with air cards past 3G. Meaning that as towers, cards and phones move to 5G and drop 3G compatibility, the TSC3 will become obsolete for use on a network.
Can anyone confirm that?
Am I totally misunderstanding what I was being told? (highly probable)
I'm just looking at alternatives to the huge TSC7.
James
I would assume whoever you were speaking with was referring to the internal modem of the TSC3. If the internal modem is a 3G modem, most carriers in the US are in the process of sunsetting the 3G service. Verizon will shut down their 3G service at the end of the year and AT&T isn't far behind.
That being said, you could leverage and external MiFi hotspot as the source of your internet connection.
My understanding as well.?ÿ
I had a sim card in my TSC3 when I first got it a couple of years ago, but found it was actually easier to use a hotspot (mifi or on phone), so I no longer use the internal modem on the TSC3.?ÿ
Thanks for the input. It seems to me that putting an upgraded modem into a TSC3 would not be hard for Trimble to do but then, what would they do with all those TSC7's.
James
They're not going to do anything with the TSC3, including software, it's not going to be a product much longer. You should try the TSC7 before you knock it, we have six of them and the crews love them.
