Anyone know if a TSC-2 will run my Hiper Pro RTK??? Looks like I may need to send my FC-2000 in for service. Have a TSC 2 kicking around that I hope might work as a backup.

Any advice appreciated.

Andy

Not if it has Trimble Survey Controller or Trimble Access, they only support Trimble receivers. It will if it has Survey Pro.

Yep, no dice then. We had to buy a Survey Pro license on our TSC2 to run a Hiper Lite rover and base setup. It was cheaper than buying a new DC for the second crew, but still too spendy to do unless you have no choice.

Pricey to get a Survey Pro license, but with Survey Controller and no Trimble gear it isn't good for much.

Trimble just announced that the last day to get that unit upgraded to Trimble Access for $500 is January 31. If you think that there's ever even a possibility that you'll want to use (or sell) that TSC2 that would be money well spent; SC 11.20 is too old to be of use for most folks.

I've been in the equipment bind before. My equipment is a generation or three behind like yours appears to be. Sorry, just saying.

My best luck has been asking the competition if they have any thing they'd like to part with around the office. You'd be surprised. Some don't want to do anything for you. You are a competitor after all. Some are happy to unload an unused backup.

Rental is always an option, and if the work load is heavy I can justify it otherwise I start rearranging my jobs to match my available equipment.

Be very careful with EBAY. I question whether or not many of those data collectors are properly licensed.

Where do you get these announcements?

My dealer told me I could get Trimble Access added/put on my TSC3 collector
back in March 2013 for only $400 or $500.

When I finally had some money in my pocket in around September/October, I went
in to take advantage of that offer.

A week or so later, my dealer replied, that Trimble told him that deal was no longer available.
They want full list for the software, now.

I bought a brand new TSC3 and S6 in 2012 with Survey Pro 5.1 and added the software maintenance in 2013.

I know it's not exactly the same as having Survey Controller and upgrading to Access.

Still seamed like a slap in the face, that I could not/was not told about that looming deadline.

The dealer claimed it was a surprise to him, and that he tried to go up the ladder at Trimble, and they said pound sand.

My dealer is NEI; I received this in an e-mail earlier today:

Trimble Customers:
If you currently own a Trimble TSC2 Controller with Trimble Survey Controller Field Software, Trimble currently offers a Trimble ACCESS Field Software Conversion Program which allows you to convert your Trimble Survey Controller Field Software (which is now discontinued) to Trimble Access Fields Software, Including Roads Module AND 1 Year Software Maintenance for $500. This offer will be EXPIRING on January 31, 2014 and will no longer be available.
We encourage you to strongly consider this conversion which includes 1 Year of Software Maintenance. Moving forward Trimble ACCESS will only be available as a Standalone Software Product at a much higher price. Please contact me to process your Trimble ACCESS Conversion order or with any questions that you may have regarding this product.
Thank you for your business,

NEI is pretty good about sending this stuff out when they get it.

I'm a little surprised by that story as well; it had been my experience that the dealer can leverage a conversion to Access from SP if you purchase maintenance. That was a while back though.

TSC-2 Survey controller - Trimble Access?

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread.
Please help me out - I'm a bit lost regarding the difference between our TSC2 survey controllers using versions 12.49 and 12.50, and what Trimble Access software really is and does. Our survey staff uses TBC to process their data (after TGO went away), but I'm not the one with his hands on the equipment or the software. What differences are there switching to Trimble Access? Thank you very much.

TSC-2 Survey controller - Trimble Access?

Trimble Access is basically the same program as Survey Controller, as far as the workflow and data collection screens. The big differences have more to do with the layout and overall menu structure.

However, Access is designed to be modular and to allow for the addition of future modules (they currently offer specialized apps for things like mining, tunneling, seismic surveying, etc.)

TSC is no longer supported, meaning that new hardware will not be supported in it; this would include all the new GPS receiver models and firmware.

There are some very nice features in Access, particularly the GNSS Functions screen, which allows you to manage things like Bluetooth and radio settings without jumping around in multiple menus. The Settings (Config; Survey Styles, etc.) have all been moved to a separate module and Stakeout now has its own menu within Survey.

Feel free to e-mail me at leedrennan at eatel dot net with any specific questions.
