I was talking to a fellow PLS, whose business is all Trimble and he loudly griped about how Trimble quit making parts for these data collectors which he has for 3 of his 4 crews.
MY 5800 rover can't be fixed, my Geoidemeter will be dead in three years due to lack of batteries and now my data collector will suffer the same fate when the keyboard wears out? I'm seroiously thinking of changing equipment suppliers. Already have gone to JAVAD for GNSS:-D

Albeit as disheartening it is to think that Trimble has a monopoly, which they do, I still swear by them for user friendliness, accuracy, and their ability to stay on top of our industry for mostly a group that is non-survey enveloped as I would like to think we are all. Considering the circumstances, this is what I have done in my recent purchases. Every new TSC3 or higher comes with a one year warranty along with the virtual cloud - Trimble Access Sync which I use routinely. When I realized how much a data collector screen cost, I knew the $700 annual fee was pennies on the dollar compared to replacing a new robotic TSC3 at $7300.

I guess my point is when you have come to terms with the accounting of it all, as in you have taken into account the cost of the equipment itself along with the maintenance agreements, warranties, not to mention the cost of the VRS if applicable in your area, it becomes nuts and bolts for each and every proposal. If you have the liberty to afford it on the forefront, you become a Trimble lifer and ultimately their customer service and repairs becomes insignificant because of such warranties. I have used Leica and Trimble in my tenured years and I still wouldn't trade Trimble for anything.

Hope I have swayed your motivation..... 😀 by the way, I have some TSC2's that I might be able to part with if you want that I did not take the opportunity to stay on top of such warranties. They are still tradable for upgrades into TSC3 or the tablets. (In retrospect of course...ha)

Unfortunately the firm I work for has a no to extended warranties and use it till it's dead equipment policy, then buy whatever is the least expensive alternative replacement, gripe about the price, and why didn't the old equipment last forever attitude.

I just had a TSC2 serviced which included a screen replacement and a brand new front plate
(new keyboard) by Seiler, our local Trimble provider. No problem with parts.

We've also had TSC2s serviced fairly recently by NEI. I doubt if screens will be a problem, even if Trimble stops supplying them they should be available aftermarket.
