@bstrand I suggest 9" x 9" minimum.?ÿ Mine are a four years old, don't know if new ones have bigger feet.?ÿ You could maybe go a hair smaller but might have to twist to make them fit
The box they come in from Trimble is 9x10
That is perfect and just the info I was looking for!?ÿ I think 9" tall by 10" wide will work out just right.?ÿ Snug fit seems best so they don't slam around while driving.
I suggest at least 10" x 10" or getting them in and out will be a struggle. It's the large feet, mostly. Note that Mr. Kendall is stuffing his into a 9" x 10" box head first.?ÿ?ÿ
I use Nedo (never heard of them before) made in Germany wooden legs. They have lever clamps as well as screws. I usually use both just to be safe. The ultrasonic motors in the Sokkia ix I was using apparently made enough vibration it was recommended to use dual clamping so I got in the habit of that. Now I use an old Leica that doesn't have the crazy noisy vibrating motors.?ÿ
My backup legs are probably older than me. Wild wooden legs with just the screws. You have to really crank the screws and jiggle the legs but they work fine as my backsight or for GPS.?ÿ
@350rocketmike The legs on the right in my photo above are Nedo with the lever clamps only.?ÿ They are all wood and about $200 cheaper than the TriMax IIRC.?ÿ I just bought mine last year so can't attest to durability but I used them previously while working for another firm and never had any problems.?ÿ I'm generally not as attentive to drift and expansion as some of the other posters are on this thread
I don't see the photo, but as far as the ones I'm using I think they are 3-4 years old. I've had to tighten a loose screw and tighten all the clamps once. Other than that they are holding up like new. They don't swell after getting wet like the older legs do. My boss probably bought them because of price but they seem fine.?ÿ
