Trimble SX10 with Yuma 2 - Access 2018?

This past year at Trimble Dimensions, I inquired about upgrading our Yuma 2 to Windows 10 so we could run Access 2018, and was told that the Yuma 2 could not be upgraded to Windows 10.?ÿ I haven't looked into it any further.

I also have a Yuma and was told that Access 2018 will only work on the TSC7 and T10.?ÿ

Tnx... I don't see why Yuma 2 can't be upgraded to win 10 ... it's a tablet as any other with ok specs for win 10 32 bit...?ÿ

I'm sure it's true because it's windows 7 - windows 10 introduce newer .net framework and controls (UI elements) but if we upgrade to win 10 should work normally?ÿ... only I wish to know did anybody try before I try myself 🙂

My Yuma died in the field last week about 300 miles from home. I?ÿ had been considering getting a copy of Trimble access to run on my laptop (new Dell, but running Windows 7), as the type of work I was doing was all from a vehicle-photo control, setup on a photo ID, and run the survey (RTK Observed control point) from inside the vehicle. I had been considering this for a while as it would also be good for scanning with the SX10.?ÿ

So I ordered a new copy of Access. In the meantime, my dealer told me I could download a 30 day trial version, that would get me up and running in the field. So I ran Trimble Installation Manager and installed "Latest Version-2018.20", which is what was at the top of the drop down list. The list included several past versions of 2018 and several versions of 2017. Ran the install, everything seemed to be fine. Then I tried to run Access. Nothing. No error message, nothing. Then I remembered that maybe(?) I was told the reason 2018 won't run on the Yuma is that it requires Windows 10. So I un-installed it. But, all that would ever come up in the drop down list now was Access 2018. Tried going back to a system restore point before I installed it, searching for any remnants of it and deleting them, etc. But I could not get it to give me 2017 in the list.?ÿ

Screwed me, had to do static for the next two days. My solution today in the office was to upgrade the computer to Windows 10, which I had been avoiding for several reasons. Now it all works. I have no idea why Trimble doesn't check for that and give a warning.?ÿ

So bottom line is BEWARE what OS you are installing onto. Maybe Trimble has a way to "undo" this, but they did not get back to me all day yesterday with a solution.?ÿ

For me, this is not good cause they sell still Yuma and of course, if you buy newest piece of equipment (SX10) u expect also newest software on the controller - regardless of what is the controller. I can understand TSC3 but for windows tablet hey should send Yuma 2 with Win 10 and Access 2018 ... big minus for Trimble... stupid thing ... and dealer didn't warn me for this 🙁

@bpetkovic The Yuma 7 is out but not widely available. Specs are almost identical to the TSC7 minus the keyboard. Runs Win10 and Access 2018.

I'm not sure where you are, but no dealers around here are still selling Yuma 2s. I use a Yuma 2 with the SX10 because we already had one when we purchased it and in any case the TSC7 and T7 hadn't been released yet. The Yuma 2 has hardware limitations that, IMHO, make trying to upgrade it to Windows 10 inadvisable. Plus if Trimble says you can't do it, I generally figure they know more about their own products than I do. I run Access 2017.21 on my tablet, it runs the SX10 just fine. Sure I'd love to have a better controller with Windows 10 and Access 2018, but for now what I have gets the job done.
