I'm having issue when I set up a resection with Trimble S5 and TSC3. Resection is set up ok but when I go to change the job, and measure or stake out, it requires me to set up a new resection. Surely when the resection is performed in one job, the information is brought through to all jobs

I'm not much help here because I do not use trimble equipment or software BUT. In the old days of HP48GX using TDS Survey Pro there was the option to create a "control file" that could be used with any other job file. Maybe Trimble has that option and so you would do the resection in the "control file" and then be able to use those "control points" with any other jobs that you associate with the "control file".

If you do a resection in a job file. Then start a new job it has no idea where you are. Now you can use last or you can simply link to that job you did your resection in and do a station set up. You have the coordinates of that resection point and use one of the others as your BS.  Or you can export a csv file of the points you need for control to the project folder and then link to those or import. I prefer linking. Are you managing your projects and job files by having working job files in a project folder specifically for that site. And other project folder with its job and other files in there prospective folders. I am assuming you are running Trimble access software .

@emt16 The ability to copy a station setup from one job to another was introduced in Access 2018.20.
Unfortunately this version of Access does not run on a TSC3

This is what made us such “lazy” surveyors. We were born and raised and tasked with occupy and back sight workflows. We ALWAYS setup a backsight, so that we didn’t have to walk the project multiple times  just to reset our orientation

Resection was reserved for finding control points, not to actually use it for a setup. So we didn’t ask for resection to carry from project to project, because we really didn’t care to use it. Damn. I think I might be an old surveyor now!

When I started I often used Resection, almost every small job.

Setting up a point that would observe most of the site was more important than traversing around it. With an 11c and a field book you can resect very quickly. I don't do that anymore since I've got GPS and we sprinkle control points were needed.

However, I suppose on messy construction sites resection could be helpful at times.

Working on the boundary and site plan side for a yearlong local construction project the contractor resected in a couple of points last fall; it wasn't pretty, we fixed them for him. Still not sure what he did, but all's good now. It's such simple math, the TSC3 should handle it easily.

What do you mean “change the job” .? Opening a different job file?
