Sorry I have this silly question, but I'm wondering which of these give better RTK measurement accuracies. And will the hemisphere initialize quicker and keep lock under loose canopy ??ÿ ?ÿ

Forgive my ignorance.?ÿ ?ÿThank you very much?ÿ

The Hemisphere receiver is a recent-generation product, while the Trimble 4000 series is over 20 years old.?ÿ Although I own a bunch of 4000SSi and 4000SSe units, I've only used them for static observations; however, I have little doubt that the Hemisphere would win the comparison hands down in terms of speed to fix, reliability of fix, and maintenance of fix.?ÿ I wouldn't expect much difference in accuracy -- as long as enough SVs are in view -- due to the inherent limits of RTK.?ÿ But the Hemisphere is a GNSS product while the Trimble is GPS-only, so in conditions of limited SV availability the Hemisphere will again come out on top.

Thank you Jim,?ÿ

I think that since I've been running in the stone age for so long, anything will be better and faster.?ÿ Since I always take long shots on survey control points, the accuracy (or reliability) of measurements may be ok.?ÿ ?ÿIt's a policy to check measured verses record and re-shoot if the tolerance is out. PLUS, I have just been informed that the Hemisphere s320 is network capable with a hot spot.?ÿ This may be useful for times when a base is not safe or radio signals are obstructed.?ÿ ?ÿJust in case, I will carry my olde tyme 4700 rover and 4000ssi base in the truck.?ÿ ?ÿReally cant sell them for anything.?ÿ

I hope some Hemisphere user out there can encourage?ÿ ?ÿme (or discourage me)?ÿ before I take the plunge.

4000 sse and ssi are plentiful on eBay at $200 and sometimes much less, but most come untested and without a power cable. Power cables are uncommon.?ÿ I haven't seen a working full set go by for a whle so don't know what one would go for.

Hey?ÿ?ÿ

Yes, I have three of the 4000ssi units .only one works,?ÿ two 4000se units that work.?ÿ ?ÿ, a 4700 that refuses to start up occasionally and a 4600ls. That works great in Open sites?ÿ?ÿ

Unfortunately they are old and tired like me.?ÿ I'm hoping the hemisphere s320 will work for rtk. And as network rover . I've read good things about them .?ÿ?ÿ

Also read good things about igage 80 .?ÿ Units.?ÿ?ÿ

The big 3 are out of my budget now .?ÿ?ÿ

Have a good week coming up?ÿ

My question is "How much longer are you going to be surveying?"?ÿ ?ÿWhile I cut my teeth on the 4000's ,?ÿ 4700's, etc....and I can understand using them today as they are workhorses.... I have to say the latest and greatest technology blows them away when in comes to ease of use and portability.?ÿ So, IMHO, it depends on if you have long in the biz or are looking at wrapping up.?ÿ?ÿ

At my new place, we just picked up the new Carlson BRx6 and controller.... it blazing fast for RTK, hooks right up to the state DOT free correction service and gets data from every single SV system in orbit.?ÿ It's truly amazing.?ÿ ?ÿ When I tested it under canopy I was shocked at how close it got to the optically surveyed locations.?ÿ ?ÿ And I'm not one of those surveyors that will take a long crappy shot under tree cover and assume it's good.?ÿ?ÿ

I bought a carlson BRX5 (same as hem s320) last year because of price and the fact I already owned a carlson surveyor2 dc.?ÿ I'm using it as a network rover.?ÿ Overall I'm satisfied, but compared to a Leica GS14 (the only other unit I have experience with) it is slower to fix.?ÿ The hem s320 does have occasional "bad fixes" in poor environments (which I guess all units may).?ÿ I don't trust anything until I have 2 shots, it has lied several times.?ÿ I wish it would remain floating instead of getting a "bad fix".?ÿ If I had to do it over and not on a budget, I would take a hard look at the carlson BRX6 (hem s321).
