GPS on Benchmark setup March 21.?ÿ That's a former railroad grade now used as a lane to farm fields, with a stone culvert where the disk is mounted. The lady who owns the land was quite pleasant and cooperative.?ÿ She is 75 years old and sharp - I think she sort of understood what I was doing.
On the way home I checked a bunch of disks and have 7 recovery logs to submit, 4 good and 3 not found.?ÿ This culvert is dated 1905 and has the disk near the right hand side.?ÿ No recovery reports posted since it was monumented in 1934.?ÿ The high success ratio was helped by being sure to include any in the area with geocaching found logs, although this one and some others had no GC log.
Don't be alarmed, but it appears that Wisconsin has snuck across the river and stolen your trees. ?ÿ ??ÿ
Still plenty of trees in those 4 or 5 counties of NE Iowa that look like we stole them from Wisconsin. ?ÿ It's remarkable the change in landscape you see as you get north of Strawberry Point.
These pictures are in northern Tama and Benton counties, where flat and open is much more common.?ÿ Not much different from your ancestral location you mentioned in the NE part of the county I'm now in.

We must be about to Spring. The sun is actually setting due West.
