Will a Carlson Explorer fit in a Seco soft case with a small Total Station?

Top load or front load?

we use the seco top load cases and they have a pleated pocket on each side. yes they will hold your data collector, and extra batteries, and some flagging, and some nails, and a rain cover, 1/2 a roll of toilet paper, a copy of the plat and a snikers bar and a 12 oz bottle of water. i have personally has all of these items stuff in the bag at the same time. buy with confidence!

Top load for sure, if you gun is small get the smaller case. I tuck a flannel shirt around mine just to tighen it up some. Side pockets are big and can hold a collector.
You can cut some of the foam to make the fit better.

I bought the Top load from SECO (the one with frame) but its foam sidings are unfortunately thicker than what my Leica Flexline requires. I need to cut some thickness out. But the case design is great.. 🙂

Rain Cover?

Do NOT get a front load instrument case. We tried those years ago. The only thing holding the instrument in the case is a little "seatbelt". If that thing is not carefully secured, the instrument will dump out at your feet. If you're lucky, you're on soft ground when that happens. We were never so lucky.
Top load is the way.

I have the front load backpack with separate compartment on top for the Data Collector. It has side pockets for other stuff (water, clipboard, even cutting tools).

The danged thing is made for a midget though. OK 200' to the next traverse point but a bit of an ordeal to carry half a mile back to the truck at the end of the day.

Use the Seco top loader, no frame. TS is a smidge over 2in less than the height of the inside. Cut out a 2inch thick piece of similar feeling material from packing out of a monitor shipping box the size of the opening and put in under the gun and another piece along the side of the scope while pointing down and it makes a secure fit like in the original case.

A couple of bungee cables and the tripod is attached. Hint, point the feet upwards.

This one must have extra long harness straps, cause there is alot of extra strap. The belly belt is nice for climbing up embankments and bending over and such.

Wearing it does make me think of the astronauts and how their setup and space suits on the moon landing.

I use a tall kitchen trash bag for my rain cover. White plastic shows up good in most any background.
