Had an urgent replace/ repair of a 345KV transmission line west of Piedmont, Oklahoma that we layed out today. Thought some might enjoy the pics.
On a side note, I was thinking of snapping lots of shots of the devastation..but once you're there..and you see these miserable people stumbling through the total wreckage looking for 'something'...and some of them look like they are wearing the clothes they had on Tuesday night...it's just plain sad.
There's plenty of pics to look at on the tube..I just couldn't bring myself to capture any images of other people's misery. I guess I wouldn't make a good photo-journalist.
But here's some shots I did take from a distance:
A truck that didn't make it.
A foundation..
And the house that was on it, once upon a time..
A crumpled mess..
A site you don't see everyday..
And in case you ever have the need..the reception was great:
Oh, and one that fascinates me. The amount of force it took to sheer this bolt must have been great..
Is that a Okie Christmas tree in the second picture? 😉
It must be..I think I see some tinsel in a branch!
I wish I would have known you were up here today. I was working there today too. Were those orange paint arcs in the road yours? I saw those and thought someone else must be swinging ccr ties. I've seen quite a bit of tornado damage in Oklahoma and that area is some of the worst I've seen. Here are a couple of pictures of the site we worked on. I also wanted to take more but it just felt wrong.
Sorry, I guess I shoulda called. I didn't know we were going to be there until 7AM this morning..that's when Commission Gordon called the Bat-Phone...;-)
We were at Rockwell and Simmons. Sadly none of the CCR swings were ours. No "real" land surveying today..only alignments for line cowboys..man do they work fast. I had to work really hard to keep a quarter mile buffer between us.
Stayin' busy?

Reminds me of a few years ago after a hurricane had passed, we were working on a boundary survey several miles inland, and come upon several trees with metal roofing 20'-30' up in the limbs....
I'm staying busy.
