Anyone use auto level on a Topcon RTS? If so how did you like it? Was windy on site the other day and the wind bumped the RTS out of tolerance and the DC had the option to auto level. Thought about trying it but I needed to change setups anyway to locate some inverses. Just curious what others thoughts are on it.?ÿ
I'm familiar with automatic compensators for levelling, but I've never heard of an "auto level" option for when the instrument has been bumped...what is it supposed to do?
I haven??t tried it yet but everything I??ve seen makes it look like your DC says the RTS is out of tolerance and asks if you want to auto level and if you click it it levels itself. ?ÿNot really sure how it works, I??d still think I would want to check the plummet that I??m still centered?
Oof. Yeah, I wouldn't use that function just because I couldn't be sure whether the instrument is still centered.
I guess I could use it when resecting, but I'd still want to reobserve control and reposition the instrument, which sort of negates the whole "saving time" benefits that the function supposedly provides.
Most of the instruments I have worked with would occasionally throw a tilt error, but if it was really just a gust of wind and the setup was solid (sandbagged or weighted legs) it would go out of compensator range for a few seconds, then settle back into range.
But if it got bumped, or the wind was very strong and?ÿ changing directions enough to create a tilt error that didn't go away quickly, it was almost a certainty that they were no longer directly over the point. And I wouldn't want to bet on it being over the point when I could just go back and verify...
Yeah I??d say if I wasn??t done with that setup I??d probably check and re-center then check my backsight again. Guess that??s one of the pains of setting up on concrete. ?????ÿ
