I have one of my Hiper Lite units sitting on my desk that won't turn off. I've tried resetting it, clearing the NVRAM, and just generally pushing and holding different combinations of buttons. The STAT and REC lights just keep blinking green. The unit also will not connect to my computer. Anyone have this happen to them? Any thoughts? I'm thinking it's going to just blink until the battery dies and I ship it off for repair work.

Thanks

Evelyn-

I know absolutely zippo about the Hiper Lite.

What might happen if you take the battery out or is that even possible ?

When the 'puter or other electronic things "just will not" and you are not afraid of losing any raw data, teh last choice may be gently pull the battery ?

Cheers

Derek

The batteries will indeed come out and I would think that would force it to shut off. Not hard -- basically unscrew the 4 hex nuts on the front plate and gently wiggle it off, then gently unplug each of the 2 batteries. BUT you must be careful and gentle or you can rip the rubber gasket, and when you're putting it back together be VERY VERY careful not to screw the plate tight against the battery wires -- they're tiny enough to short out and if that happens you've fried a $200 battery. Be gentle and careful with the hex nuts too or you can strip the threads. Letting the batteries run down is certainly the more conservative approach.

I believe you can disable the batteries via PC-CDU without monkeying with the hardware but if your Hipers won't talk to your computer that's not going to work.

Thanks for the replies. I finally got it to turn off, but it did the same thing when I turned it on again. I emailed my repair place and they said it sounded like the Mintor panel, so it will need to go in for repairs. The crew finished the GPS with the Locus units. The Locus units just keep chugging along.
