I have a question for the Topcon gurus. My GT 505 was calibrated yesterday and I am curious about the tilt/offset routine that is accessed by the button on the bottom left of the tilt screen.

They didn't offer up any plausible explanation as to why my tilt/offset values were 2'30" on the X axis and 1'30" on the Y axis. They told me, "well don't press that button..." The manual (attached) says that if these values are over 1' then it needs to be serviced.
Someone, please educate me! I just want to be confident in my measurements.

P.S. I know the tilt isn't zero'd out in the pictures below, I took these pictures after returning to the instrument an hour after I leveled but this doesn't seem to affect the values that are being reported after the tilt/offset routine.

Well it seems the manual is fairly clear on it. Send it back.

How do you find the instrument in general is it good?

I don't think they mean if the total tilt is more than 1' I think they mean if the new tilt is more than 1' different than the current tilt

Ah yes, I think you are right about that. Why are those values around 2' rather than 20-30 seconds? The values are roughly the same pre and post calibration.

The instrument performs great! I ran a traverse yesterday as a test on leveled control points and it closed out great. It's very fast to find you on the other side of the job using the hybrid positioning. I've used a 3m pole down in a creek and got it to find me even when I couldn't see the gun.
