Fireweed is in full bloom, very pretty but sort of like an hour glass, when the blooms reach the top and the last blooms pop, summer is pretty much over.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Was there an earthquake just as the photo was taken? Or were you jumping for joy?
@holy-cow No earthquake today, either me racing the timer on my phone camera, or I’m levitating.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't made it back to Alaska since my father passed away fifteen years ago. Prior to that we went often and, in-between filling coolers with fillets, greatly appreciated your office view. Is fireweed jelly and honey just marketed to tourists or do locals enjoy it too?
@murphy Funny that you should mention it. In the hour and a half drive back to the office I saw at least a couple dozen people out harvesting the flowers for just such preparations.

Just have to ask. Is that a radio antenna in your back pocket or are you just happy to see us?
Why is it I'm not looking at the scenery, instead I'm wondering if that's an R10 or R12 and what kinda hammer drill are you using for a jack hammer. Very professional: you actually dug up the monument (didn't simply listen around and grab the noise) and you have equipment to speed things up. Awesome!
@mightymoe I'm sort of a stickler for doing things right to best of my ability. I'm subdividing a couple of sections of Ag land for local government and I usually try and get a decent depiction of the cap on the plat. The rotohammer is a Milwaukee and it's a beast. My shoulder can't handle pounding a spud bar any longer. When I came to work here last November I inherited the rotohammer along with a several iG9 receivers and some decade old SurvPC software running on a Topcon FC-5000 that can't be updated to Windows 11, so I told the powers that be that if they wanted an army of one to do all this work, they were going to have to break down and pony up for some Trimble gear. Naturally they screamed poverty and I was forced to result to persuasion with the argument that if this was the business model they wanted, one guy to do everything, and be everywhere, for everyone, they're going to have to break out their checkbook. I swung a deal with our Trimble dealer on a lightly used R780 for a base and an R12i for a rover along with a TSC5 running Access, along with a seat of TBC. They caved.

R780 base and R12i for rover should be a sweet setup. I had to chip my way into a dense county gravel road last year with a bar. Should've taken the Dewalt, but I left it for the other crew who didn't actually need it that day. Maybe we need two of them.
