So I nonchalantly- kinda casually mosied out to where RX0666 was supposed to be- I needed it for a vertical on a topo- figured I??d set a TBM close by, because I didn??t want to do much around that vicinity for *cough* obvious reasons- so I look down and see this-

gotta wonder what rolled that cap off the signal base like that. Vandals?

There is considerably more ballast there than in this 2005 picture, so possibly it was snagged by a machine spreading the rock.

One could find significance in the PID if so inclined.

I agree there??s considerably more ballast there than when Kurt found it. ?ÿAnd CRAP happens near the tracks. The cap had been recessed into the base a bit, but something sure grabbed it.

For topo, you could probably get an accurate enough elevation from the concrete with a small correction for how much the disk was formerly above it.

I'm guessing that someone else found the disk lying nearby. They laid it on the stub in concrete and used it for their benchmark.?ÿ That's how it came to be lying on the stub after being sheared off enough force to bend it like that.

It??s very possible some else found it and put it back- as for using it for my vertical, I briefly considered it, but just went with Y446, a couple miles to the west. It??s just a bit trickier to access, being just behind the rail in a guard-railed section of the Interstate.
