From a Patent (based on earlier Field Notes) dated 06/28/1905:
"Thence, third course, North 440.1 feet to Corner No.4, a pine post 4 inches square, marked 4-5251, in mound of earth and stone, from which a point on the surface, vertically above the discovery point, which is in the Honerine Drain Tunnel, bears S55°41'E 400.6 feet distant."
Anybody got a shovel??? That discovery point should only be down there about 300 vertical feet from the looks of things. It's about 3300 feet from the portal, but that have been caved in for years.

With the calls, why do you need the discovery point?
jud
The “Discovery Point” (monument) is where ALL right, title, and interest originate on a Lode Mining Claim. This is “USUALLY” a well monumented point, and often quite useful in retracing the other lines, monuments, and features of the Mineral Survey.
Now speaking hypothetically... IF this “point” had been monumented (on the surface), it could be used to verify vague physical evidence at Corner No.4, or even as an “accessory) thereto in some cases. In the case of a classic 4-corner + Discovery Monument Mineral Survey, ALL of the 4 exterior Corner could (theoretically) be replaced based solely on the Discovery Monument if they all should be destroyed. A pretty unlikely, but possible scenario.
I'm somewhat surprised that this “point” was not monumented as part of the Mineral Survey.
Edit, so I guess the answer to your question in this case, is I don't.
