....until I got a call this afternoon from the one client (a rural electric co-op) for which I still provided R/W services.
They're implementing a program to provide fiber-optic internet and com service within their approx. 2200 square mile service area. The HMFIC called this afternoon and explained the board had desired my services for all the R/W work, but most of them know I've been on "part-time" status since January. He explained they would be OK with seeking services elsewhere if I wasn't interested. I jumped at the opportunity so fast I almost bit my tongue saying yes.
I may yet fulfill the last entry on my bucket list by expiring in the field with my boots on. 😉
ps - I may even get a new truck out of this deal...
Hmmm... "HMFIC"?? Oh, of course... "HARN Monument Found In Case"... I should've known better...
The only superior evidence is that which you haven't yet found.

A co-op is going to provide fiber-to-the-premises? Why, that's Socialism! (Translation: it derails the gravy train owned by AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.)

I must admit I'm not as up on the current regs as I should be, but people are burying all over the place around here. Makes me think something got de-regulated or some time-limit ran out. It will be interesting to watch.
They have new boxes all over the place around here that house a bunch of motherboards that connects fiber optics to hard wire.
Last year by this time many were being babysit thru the day because they were overheating and shutting down.
Like a computer, once the core temperature reaches redline they can go "poof" or shut down, whichever happens the fastest.
