Bring water. (Ted, jump in the lake!) Drink lots of it. Add a little salt to it. I use Himalayan salt. Get a good wet towel. Wife got me one of these: http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_787672_-1?cm_mmc=pla-_-Camping+Outdoors+Camp+Essentials+Cooling+Towels+Fans-_-Google-_-Frogg+Toggs+Chilly+Pad+Hi-Vis+Orange+Cooling+Towel&kwid=productads-plaid%5E135413723838-sku%5E018600791-adType%5EPLA-device%5Ec-adid%5E76383153198
Be careful. It is hot out there!

The heat is truly a killer. Be careful, it can steal your life silently and quickly.
Here's a story about a French couple that perished in New Mexico, just a few hundred yards from their car.
It was so hot yesterday, I saw a rooster, using tongs to pick up a worm!
🙂

Wear light (in weight and in color) clothing and a broad brimmed hat.
Take extra breaks.
Drink plenty of water, if you're not urinating once per hour you're not drinking enough (sorry Ted).
If possible take your breaks in the shade or in a cool place.
A cool towel on the back of the neck really helps.
Cold water run over your wrists can cool you down.
Sports drinks (Gatorade) should be used in moderation. At least two bottles of water between sports drinks.

Sadly they didn't pay attention to all of the signs warning of the extreme the walk was plus the common sense to carry water.
