First off -

An acoustic plumbing device for GPS or total station poles. I'm thinking of a tone that would be high when off plumb and gradually lowering to a pulse when plumb similar to the rotating laser target.

A small circular bubble recessed into the top of a tripod, very useful when working on sloping sites.

Any more ideas?

I always thought that a self-leveling rod could be developed with a little motorized gyro. Just hold down a button and let the gyro plumb the pole.

Thirty years ago I also thought that we needed a hub-gun, like a Hilti. My dream model used those little 1" square oak hubs. Never took off.

I also thought up gummed edge tortillas. You could roll an enchilada just like a cigarette...

just a few of my crazy pipe dreams.....:pinch:

Gummed edge tortilla, hmmmmm, I think I like it, better than burning you fingertips trying to hold them together with toothpicks.

Not a bad idea for an okie.;-)

It would make for an expensive rod I imagine, but I've often wished for a rod that would update it's height to the controller whenever it's changed. I like the sound for the bubble idea too.

Mark the side of the rod with foot demarcations that take into account the tip.

Put a defined point on the top of the 360 prism with a little level bubble on the bottom so you could pop it off the rod for a quick tight shot down.

Have a open chat session on their website with actual working surveyors to aid in software development.

a data recorder that could carry the gun and tripod and command the motorized rod to go to the next sideshot point while it carries a motorised saw cutter cutting all obstacles within line of sight to the gun.

if it could also drive the vehiicle to the site via bluetooth would be a plus too:-S

How about a built in tracking method for an RTK base unit? They already have the cell modem built into almost all new receivers. Why not help us protect our investments?! It would be really slick if you were able to setup a geofence to alert you when somebody snatches your equipment.

How about a voice activated data collector such that you can simply say what needs to be remembered about a point instead of keying it in?

A nail gun that can set PK's and Mags?

A Jedi-like light saber to replace machettes?

Lightweight bar puller to jack out a bar that has been set in error?

I too have dreamed of a laser machete.

But a bar puller? Blasphemy! There are some on here that claim nothing is ever set in error and where one finds anything that looks like it could be a corner it must be good.

Yeah, they come up with a pipe puller and I'm launching my pipe duster drone service.

No,no,no,you don't understand

Sometimes I need to pull my own bars. A recent example is the job I mentioned a few weeks ago with the lady who was intending to keep three acres, including where Dear Old Dad is buried, and selling the remainder of the property. We did the field work as directed. Both she and the buyer had a different vision of just how big three acres actually is. Therefore, we went back that same week to create an "L"-shaped tract. The first four bars we had set now were meaningless, so we pulled them to prevent any possible confusion. Two of those were set on the centerline of a rocked county road. Jacking them back out was not easy. We used a High-Lift jack and length of chain after digging away enough material from around the bar to secure the chain. BTW, we have probably done this a few hundred times over the past 30 years.

The absolute worst case of this was when I had to remove a bar I had set with about the bottom six inches having been driven into a crack in otherwise solid rock. It had to go as I had made an error and needed to set the correct monument about four inches to the south of the bar being removed.

No,no,no,you don't understand

These will remove 98% of the rebars we set around here...

https://surveyorconnect.com/images/uploaded/20131116142758528780ee8f71b.jp g" alt="" />

The most common exception to vise grip removal being rebars set it a drill hole in boulders or bedrock.

How about a code ID page(s) in whatever software you use when you log a point, a display comes up with a group of boxes with assigned description codes. Tap the appropriate assigned box, (IPIN, SPIKE, etc) to designate the code.
