I learn new things all the time, finding out I'm not as educated as I might have thought. This year I've learned a few new things that have stuck with me.

A syphon on a reservoir has a height limit- One atmosphere.

A partial plat vacation also vacates the streets and alleys.

And I never would have thought that increasing the volume of a cross-section for a flood plain could increase the elevation for the BFE.

Of course there are lots of other things I learn and one that has been bugging me this morning cause I can't remember it. ??ÿ

Volume is a three dimensional measurement. Aren't cross-sections two dimensional?

?ÿ

They're teaching us a lesson a day we're learning pretty well too

We've already learned a whole lot of stuff already

Things like:

There ain't no good in an evil-hearted woman

And I ain't cut out to be no Jesse James
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ
And you don't go writing hot checks down in Mississippi
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ
And there ain't no good chain gang

I learned there is such a thing as an "acre long piece of land".

Yep, but we cross-section a valley for a BFE at the house site?ÿand it's very flat, so our last shot in the valley was about?ÿa foot lower than the calculated BFE, so we went out to add to the cross section and ran it out another 1/4 mile or so to finally get enough elevation and the BFE went up, even with the extra volume. The engineer said it created a pool that has the effect of holding back the flow, so the BFE raised, not to worry, it is an A zone and the BFE is three feet lower than the bottom of the basement, 9-10' lower than the lag. Kinda a big waste of?ÿmoney for the poor land owner. I did say it incorrectly in my OP, increasing the area of a cross-section thus increasing the volume of the flood plain.

I recall a request for a No-Rise certificate years ago where river gravel was going to be quarried from the river bed. ?ÿThe cross-sectional area would be greater, in theory, but the volume of water retained below a certain level was infinitesimal compared to the total volume of the flow.
