Can somebody help me out there? The way I see it, you need to register for "The Survey Summit" before you can see a full agenda. Is that correct?

This is the first time that I can remember that you need to register for a ACSM sponsored event before you can see what the full agenda of the conference is going to be. I would like to preview a full agenda before investing a lot of money for a convention during the middle of field season.

Does not sound right to me, but that is one reason why I dropped ACSM membership this year.

Is it my imagination that the expenses for State conventions has gone up tremendously in the past few years as well?

I'd like to attend another ACSM conference, but the timeframe is horrible for fieldwork.

The one and only ACSM conference I attended was when they came to Nashville and TAPS and ACSM held a joint Conference.

As for the State Conference/Convention, our State has been holding steady pricewise for the last few years. $300 for a Member.

Try this link to see the preliminary program. http://proceedings.esri.com/library/userconf/survey10/index.html

Correction, that was for 2010. I am looking for the 2011 program.

Thanks for the link but that was for 2010 Esri Survey and Engineering GIS Summit Proceedings.

I was interested in 2011 full agenda.

Here is the agenda for 2011, but it lacks any detail.

The NJ and NY conferences seem to have held the line on costs the past few years, as have the hosting hotels.

The Survey Summit>Call for papers just closed

I need the full agenda by April or I will not be attending. Anyone listening?

I guess I should add I may not attend anyway depending on what the full agenda offers. i surely won't go based on what has been spit out so far. Seems to cater to GIS types.

The Summit at the Summit (Angel? Wendell?)

I have alerted Curt Sumner to the presence of this thread. Perhaps he will weigh in with the current status on the Survey Summit.

I'm more interested in the Beer Leg Summit (the Summit at the Summit). Anything developing on that front?

The Summit at the Summit (Angel? Wendell?)

Thanks Rich for contacting me about the thread of messages addressing the Survey Summit. I will attempt to answer the questions raised, based on the information we have at this point.

First of all, the program has not been posted yet. As was mentioned in one message, the closing date for presentation proposals has only fairly recently ended, and those proposals are still being reviewed. I have sent a message to our program chairperson to inquire regarding when he anticipates the program being selected, and posted.

It is not intended that one must register prior to seeing the program.

Details for the business meetings that are shown on the agenda will be posted early next week on the ACSM website, and we hope at the same time on the Survey Summit website.

Regarding the comment that "what has been spit out so far...seems to cater to GIS types", I not sure what is being referenced. The promotions for the Summit speak about learning of new technologies and increasing one's bottom line profits, but I don't see anything that to me implies the conference is targeting GIS users to the exclusion of surveyors. In fact, the promotions encourage interaction among practitioners of a variety of geospatial activites. Perhaps I am misreading it, but the intent is that the conference will be beneficial to surveyors for their businesses, and for their CEUs.

I don't get to browse the online Forums too often, but I can always be reached via email to address questions and concerns about anything related to our national organization. My email address is curtis.sumner@acsm.net.

Thanks again for contacting me.
Curt

Aren't all surveyors GIS types? Doesn't GIS stand for Geographical Information Systems? Haven't we been using Geographical Information Systems our entire careers? Is it that these surveyors, that are complaining, aren't realizing this?

As surveyors, we recognize the difference between accuracy and precision. When, and how to apply acceptable tolerances.

40 years ago, surveyors were the moderators of the GIS systems of the times. Where I came from, the county surveyor managed a crew of drafters and field people that kept track of the county's assets. Today, if asset management isn't supervised by surveyors, it isn't very efficient.

40 years ago surveyors had a chance to be in charge of the eminent age of GIS and only a few took it, but it's not too late. Programs like the up coming ACSM/ESRI Survey Summit Conference are exactly what we need to get that chance back.

I don't want to speak for all surveyors, if anyone has a different opinion, I'd like to here it.

Thank you,
Douglas Casement, PLS

The Summit at the Summit (Angel? Wendell?)

Not to belabor the point but the following quotes from the web page are what I was referencing. Hopefully the particulars of the sessions will add more. Like I said, it better or no dice.

What's Included:

Registration includes all scheduled sessions, refreshment breaks, lunches, socials, and the GIS Solutions EXPO. Not much about survey there

As an added benefit to attending the Summit, registration fees also include the following:

* Monday's Esri International User Conference (UC) events such as Plenary session, Academic GIS Program Fair, Map Gallery Opening and Evening Reception, and Special Displays. Whooptydoo
* Tuesday's UC Survey Track filled with more content for surveyors and anyone in an allied professional. Fair enough, what?

Then this suggested justification document

This 4 day event will offer technical workshops, GIS user presentations, and special interest and regional user group meetings. Prior to the Summit,I will be able to create a customized planner via Esri's online agenda and build a schedule geared to our ongoing projects.

...The availability of Ersi expert guidance will also be fundamental to my training. Since the summit will run concurrently with Esri International User Conference, I will also attend the Esri Plenary Session which will be like no other. The session will feature renowned keynote speakers, demonstrations of GIS updates, and a chance to hear directly from Esri president Jack Dangermond.

Please forgive me for thinking this Summit is catered toward the GIS sector. I don't think my request using this information would be approved and I would be embarrassed to ask
