Let me guess, you're going to tag the fence post?

All humor aside, I'll wager a six-pack the iron pipe is the corner as accepted by the BLM/GLO and they set their std monument alongside.

I see this quite a bit, "fnd stone as witnessed and described by the surveyor general....set 36" galv pipe and Brass cap alongside...." In nearly all cases, the private surveyor finding the corner will locate and call the BLM pipe the "corner" instead of the original corner. Then of course, they will argue about a few hundredths in their least square adjustments.

Seems like the GLO/BLM is creating confusion with that kind of system. We have a county re-monumentation program and when the county monument is set, the old pipe or whatever is removed, a Land Corner Recordation Certificate is filed with the State and County that tells everyone what was found ect. ect.

It's a closing corner-started life as a stone-then the pipe was put there-then the brass cap.

It marks the intersection of two lines that create the common corner of 4 lots.

But; it isn't all that close to the intersection (all the original monuments are in place) so I have to decide if the CC should be monumented and mark AM on the cap.

I am holding a number of closing corners for line south of this one because they all are less that 0.5 feet "offline" and were clearly set by running the control lines along with the closing lines.

But this one....

I'm going with the stone on the close side of the fence, or is that a cow patty?

That would be a cow pie.

I read the Cow's affidavit and, frankly, it wasn't very helpful:

MOOO MOOO MOO MOOOOOOOOO MOOO.

I'm not going to step into this one except to say that my experience has always been the older the monument the more accurate it is.

That is a good way to look at it.

As in, that shiny new brass cap set a finger length away from a rusty old pipe,......has no value!
