I dont use TBC very often as most of my jobs dont require Static processing but today I needed to do a quick transformation so I fired it up. Well imagine my surprise when it starts trying to load updates from a CD.. Not sure what exactly happened as it worked just fine last time I used it. I am on Version 2.5 and it looks like the current version is 3.4 and they call it a "Major" update. I havent updated yet but I am assuming the word major means..open thy wallet again...
DO NOT install 3.40 unless you're ready to open your wallet... unlike 2.50, NOTHING works without a dongle (or network license).

and if you do, go ahead and uninstall it. 3.50 drops today
I love it.... I just last week FINALLY got our IT guy to "unlock" my desktop to install 3.4
He'll LOVE hearing 3.5 is out already!
I can't even install the coordinate definition database file to my C: drive without him "unlocking" access either.
This shouldn't take long, right?
o.O
There is an update to TBC at least twice a month if not more it seems.....been like that for as long as I can remember. Some take a verrrrry long time to install for some reason.

Anything interesting in 3.50? I'm under contract again...
No more Trimble for us!
We're looking for a new robotic TS and it will not be Trimble. Contracts, updates, software incompatibility and monopolies kinda go against the independent, free-spirited land surveyor...Dontcha think?
I'm not seeing v3.50 yet when I check for updates. Does it pertain to all flavors, or only certain ones?

From the release notes:
Existing users installing this version of TBC:
Install TBC from the installation package downloaded from the Trimble website.
Important Note! This version is available to users whose current warranty expiration date is 1 April 2015 or later. If your warranty expires prior to this date and you proceed with the installation, licensed features will not be available. Contact your distributor to purchase a warranty extension. On the Start page, select View License Manager to verify your warranty expiration date.
It was my goof -- when I looked at the "Check for updates" box, I assumed that the new TBC version would be listed first, and didn't bother scrolling to the bottom. It was hiding underneath all the tutorial and other stuff.
No more Trimble for us!
I agree, but it is hard to just dump about $100k worth of equipment in the storage shed. When we bought all this stuff, I knew nothing or very little about GPS and Robotics. I would certainly look for something different today.

I know.
We are a small shop. We run a 5603 and have been satisfied. We get good closures, are not locked in to contracts and can use whatever 3rd party software we choose.
The thread about the 5600s getting retired fired me up a little. I guess that carried over into this thread. Sorry OP :-/
We are due for a new gun. Any suggestions?
No more Trimble for us!
I think using the Geo600/Trim5600s and the "active target" probably ruined me. I've demo'ed other guns and nothing compares. Probably the only thing that could satisfy me when it's time to move on is an S6 with active target ... :'(
I demo'ed a Spectra Precision Focus 30, and it was OK, but Spectra Precision is owned by ... guess who.
Just upgraded
Ho Hum yawn
No more Trimble for us!
TBC 3.50 is a major update, there are too many features to list.
Most of the surveyors I have read or listened to on this and other posts seem to think that TBC is a simple TFR program and not much else.
TBC is becomming one of the primier least squares / post processing / and many other high powered survey software product in our market.
They unlocked the point cloud creation with Trimble's V10 instead of a scanner you can now take pictures and produce a point cloud from them. There are dozens of other features as well.
For the people who have not kept up support as far back as 2.xx you might as well purchase a new TBC program, it is that different.
