Apparently there was a wall built on a beach in Alabama that could be in the wrong place. It is rare to see surveyors on television, and in this little news clip they play a pretty important role. It would have been better if they had an old transit, chain, and 15 guys pulling it though!

I have to wonder why a wall like that would not have been staked by a surveyor in the first place...
Fort Morgan is nice place on the Gulf Coast area. Spent some days there a few summers ago.( friends rented a house for a month) Some of the beach stretches are like the Gulf Coast from years ago.

It probably was...according to some plans put together by some consultant now laden with heavy pockets.
I hear the cry of "guillotine" in the roar of the surf....
That is an ugly wall.
Just another example of government just taking what they want..
Oh wow! That is in the neighborhood where we stay every summer! Two years ago, I got the caretaker (who is an employee of the State of Alabama) to give us a tour. Fascinating history in that house. I think this qualifies as a small world kind of situation.
Now I'm hungry for some Tacky Jack's and some Bahama Bob's...
Anybody have that data collector?
Brian, the data collector housing is a TDS ranger, often relabelled as a Trimble tsc2 or a spectra precision.
The GPS dome appears to be a 3rd gen Trimble r8, so chances are most likely it is all Trimble.
I got 3 of them, what do you want to know?

Tacky Jack's (the original on the water) only for breakfast. The Farmer's Omelet is worth the trip. I spent 7 months on that beach observing the oil spill cleanup. Anywhere from the Florabama to Fort Morgan.

Nothing more, just was curious if anybody used the same setup and sure enough, people here do!
I would use GPS to set some control, but after that, everything would be done by total station.

Yes sir, it is. You should see it in its full glory along with all the nice beach properties around it. The whole place has been left to decay, with one state employee watching over it. It's an albatross on an otherwise beautiful beach.

You notice the surveyor's are still out there when the reporter makes that statement.
Typical.......
That's what they told the reporter before they left to find a restroom somewhere. All that rushing water can lead to urges at odd times. When they came back the reporter would be gone. Then they could break out the 98-foot remnant of their only steel tape, plumb bobs and chaining pins. What else can you do when you have discovered you left the batteries at the office but the news reporter is already there to film you at work.
The Luv Gov just wants a little privacy.
