Very true. I groan every time I read something like they said about "sending 12,700 volts through him”. The volts don't go through. Volts across two points push the current through the path between the points.
But it is also true that high voltage will push those amps through a less conductive path, like rubber boot soles, that would protect from a 120 volt house service.
AS A KID I GOT WHACKED BY THE 3RD RAIL ON THE NY CENTRAL RAILROAD--500,000 VOLTS BURNT MY LEG AND THREW ME ABOUT 50 FT-WE ALWAYS WALKED ATOP THE 3RD RAIL IT WAS WRAPPED IN WOOD ON 3 SIDES FOR ME THE TOP CRACKED AND MY LEG SLID DOWN THE RAIL-OUCH I COULD STILL SMELL THE BURN'T FLESH AND THE TIPS OF MY HAIR WERE BURNT AS WELL--TDD

I have attended safety seminars given by our local power company. They show very graphic pictures of electrocutions to get your attention. The exit wound does not tell the entire story. You are burned from the inside out. Very bad stuff.
We also watch very carefully the guy wires on power poles when gathering topo data. Some of the old ones are stretched and can actually touch a live wire.
A couple of years ago one of our dump trucks raised his dump into a line inside our public works yard. It did not kill the driver but I heard that he is still not the same. Blew out every tire on the 10 wheeler and welded several parts of the truck together. Luckily it also caused the line to blow a fuse so the line went dead almost immediately.
Sometimes it seems that everything is out to kill us.
