Posted this in non-surveying earlier by accident. Has anyone experienced Trimble survey controller on the Ranger skipping points. For example, starting at 1000 and at point # 1200, it skips to, say 1500, and goes from there? Or starts at 10 and gets to 50 and then skips to 500?

I don't want to sound simplistic, but are there any points in between? Is it asking you to overwrite?

No. On a new joob, if there are 1000 points, the crew will sometimes return with various point ranges. My experience with Topcon, Sokkia, and others have never seen this. Not familiar wwith TSC and have not witnessed it happening in the field.

Yes, I have dealt with this. It usually happens when I switch from measure topo to measure rounds. Or if they're doing GPS it might happen when they switch from topo points to observed control or rapid points.

Are they using this for GPS or conventional?

Yes, when storing different types of points the controller will default to the next number of that type...if you store a topo point, its a different starting number than a control point..I just try and watch the numbers carefully

They are using GPS. Is there a way to override this setting?

I don't how to override it, but tell the crews to be aware when they switch from observed control to topo point/rapid points/calibration points. They'll catch on quickly if they are aware of the problem.

Yep it does it to me all the time. I happen to think it has something to do about the last number of the last job. When I start a new job it starts with that number. Very strange. Gonna have to live with it because if Trimble didn't catch their mistake there is no way they are going to fix the mistake. Go Trimble!!
