It irks me in other social survey groups how nobody who thinks that using RTK or base/rover set ups are going to be exempt from the magnitude of the solar storms and electromagnetic pulses.

Oh I sent the noaa space weather stuff out and sent pics of the issues today to several fellow surveyors abroad telling them to be extremely cautious today. I usually check it every morning as computer is booting and i am getting ready to begin work as well in the afternoon. Not many observe this or the NANU reports. At my last company I sent those messages out as I received them. I always get on the email list. Have not done so since this new gig they are not interested and don’t think it’s necessary since they don’t do geodetic work. Any suggestions I make are met with we are land surveyors not geodetic we don’t worry about that. I just give up. My direct boss thanks me for letting him know. That’s about it. No one else even acknowledges that. Glad to see people here paying attention for sure

It was a spectacular show last night, tonight it might be better, I'm not going to miss it.

I know some surveyors use sUAS (drones) for reconnaissance. Civil Air Patrol also operates sUAS and requires completion of a risk management matrix before a mission is approved. One of the criteria is the planetary K index. 1 to 3 is low risk, 3 to 6 is moderate risk, and 7 or more is high risk, which is no go. A SWPC message dated 2024 May 10 2334 UTC gave a K index of 9.

Yeah. It should be part of a daily responsibility for someone in a survey office that watches that for sure. I just have it saved in my favorites and when eyeballs need a rest or about to take a quick brea It’s takes a second or two to do a quick peak is all.

Does anybody else see the babbling message about acceptance of consent to watch a You Tube video here? It's on the original post and blocks access to it unless I agree to let them collect data about me.

Creepy. Also, It was cloudy here so no aurora borealis for me. Nice picture.

Historic boundaries and conservation efforts.

Did anybody collecting GNSS observations on May 9th & 10th 2024 for post processing discover issues?

I did not. I was wanting to sit down and down load CORS data across the USA just to do some of that. However I have no software currently to process it between CORS.
