Somewhere there's a way of inserting or storing the point in the job file, created at the Base setup from logging a prescribed number of points.
When use the 'Read from GPS' option we are asked if want to store a base reference file. I'm not referring to that.
I am used to having the base point stored with all my other measured points but it eludes me in Carlson.
Help is requested thanks.

To store the base as a point #:
Set up base using method you described.
After you're in "Rover Mode"... go to the screen where you are storing points...at the bottom righthand corner of the screen there's an icon (or letter)...tap that. Go to the base tab (top right), and hit "Store Base"...or something to that effect.
Seems like there should be a better, more intuitive way (should be prompted to store during setup). I forgot to store the base a few times, and had to return to the site because the OPUS solution doesn't help if you forget to store the base.
many thanks.
Yes agree its a bit tucked away and would much prefer an option like the one asking to store reference file.
regards.
Question for Carlson software designers
Why do you think I don't want or need to store the base everytime??? I need and want the base point everytime and you go and hide the store base point in the software when it should store the base BY DEFAULT!!! ....this is a software flaw, it ain't making thing easier.
I own a survCE data collector that has SurCE 2.58 Complete and it not sending the circle to my 605(it just. Won't???) coupled with the great no base point feature make this thing collect dust at my office. It dose't make things easier

In all fairness to the manufacturers, we can't expect them to support equipment ad vitam aeternam.
If we use older technology in the field, working with the DC version that worked around that time may solve problems.

For the record, as far as I know of, Carlson has never stored the position of the base unless you go through the steps to tell it to do so. It is an option in the Monitor/Skyplot screens.
As for working with legacy equipment, if that 605 being referred to is a GTS-605 you could unplug from it and plug into any other Topcon up through the GTS-750 series and without changing a single setting it should key the instrument. I suppose some manufacturers have changed communication protocols but Topcon and Sokkia, the two I am most familiar with, have rarely changed those basic communication settings.

Thankyou.
I was told here its not automatically stored so the zoom extents doesn't blow right out on a job where the base is a long way from job.
I agree with zoom matter but can live with that.
Much prefer base to be part of main job.
How long or when is it possible to store the point?
Can it only happen when the GPS ( rover or base) is still attached?
What about after job finished and sitting by fire sipping something nice?
