Shouldn't you have included the instructions to OPEN the gate before passing through it and to CLOSE it upon passage? Likewise, when you advise to take "THE HIGHEST ROAD" shouldn't you have been more specific that you mean in terms of elevation? EMWTK.
Have a dram of Lagavulin 16 and which is the high road should become eminently clear.
The high road is not the low road.
I had to look up "K-Rail". I've always called that "Jersey Barrier". So does Wikipedia.
Shouldn't this be submitted to NGS?
I believe that K-rail is a CALTRANS term.
Hasn't it already been? A left margin made of the PID number is typical of the data sheet.
Cheers,
Henry
Given that one must pass through these gates to reach the points and they are all unlocked, why are there even gates in the first place? Where our work is done, gates are to keep riff raff out and the insanity in, but in this case an unlocked gate is pointless. I can see why you would want to be instructed to close the gate behind you. However in an equestrian area which a good majority of our work takes place the golden rule is, "If the gate is closed, close it behind you and if the gate is open, leave it open" as in they are also there for a reason. As far as reporting it to NGS, it's most likely hopeless. Some folks take the high road, and some folks take the low road, the rest just get lost.

The gates would typically be to keep livestock in one pasture or another. My riff was based upon the idea that many urban surveyors wouldn't know that the convention is to leave gates as you find them in rural areas.
I guess I missed the point of why it is posted here.
NGS does not want updated recovery information submitted unless the monument is disturbed/destroyed, which was not the case here.
The last recovery note for the station was 1970 and it is obvious that Dave provided an updated "to reach" description. Additionally, he noted that Reference Mark 2 had been destroyed, which had not been previously reported. I don't think it is correct that NGS will not accept mark recovery reports unless the station has been destroyed. DSWORLD is an excellent tool for filing these reports.
I did an OPUS DB Observation on a Benchmark last year. When I got my submittal back, there was a note on it asking me to do a recovery report. They had not had a recovery report for 5 years. I did the recovery report and used DS World to send in some pictures. I always do recoverys to let others know that it is still there.:-)
