I had a meeting scheduled for 1pm this afternoon, to meet with a client and walk their property lines which I had staked for them last week. A nice couple from RI, and non-resident taxpayers in East Orleans.

I thought that I could use the morning to set up control for a project I will be working on next week. A little research this morning established that my project area is littered with Tidal BM's, OK 4 within a half mile of each other, seems "littered" to me!

Two were suitable for GPS occupation so I set up my Sokkia GSR2700ISX units for a two hour occupation and went on to scope the rest of the project. i did find all 4 Tidal Benches however...

Aerial View Chatham MA

Note: This project is in spledeus's backyard, so to speak, but he's working on sewer-ing Chatham so hopefully he doesn't mind my intrusion 😉

The setup at 7505B 1992 looking east, kind of a foggy morning, but not as much as the picture makes it seem.. You can count on it being foggy, wet and chilly in Chatham!

Looking westerly

The point, used by gulls to open their dinners!!

I see scallop and little necks are abundant. Several shell fishermen were scraping little necks while I was setting up. Forgot to try and buy some before market but I'll go get mine this weekend!

Have a great weekend!

Don

What does the sign on your receiver setup say? Is it merely to ward of the curious while you're a short distance away keeping an eye on it, or do you actually leave the unit unattended and hope that it'll still be there when you return?

That's interesting.

I think of the East Coast beachfront as being just as warm and humid as the rest of the area.

Here the coastal is foggy, damp and cold, particularly in the summer.

Love the Chatham area. A few more weeks and it should be sunny during the day. I may have tied into some of the same benchmarks circa 1987-88.

Have fun with that Foggy.

Static GPS down Chatham Way>>jim frame

It says
"DO NOT DISTURB
INSTRUMENT IS COLLECTING DATA
CALL OUTERMOST LAND SURVEY! INC."
508-255-0477

I do leave it unattended since i have two units running and can only stay with one. I am careful when and where i leave the unattended unit. Not my ideal setup but its worked for the past 4 years. Its not uncommon to see unattended gps unitsout here on the lower cape.

i've hit some of those, but in conjunction with a control network with a little more distance between the points and multiple observations. too bad you didn't get the 4 hrs. on each point.

the location of the one by the bridge is good to get, it will probably be lost when we get our new 'hybrid' bridge. it's finally through the federal red tape (almost).

as a teenager, i leveled through all of those in conjunction with work on the bridge.

while i understand the trespass to use a monument, did you contact dick hoyt to use the one on his private property?
