Making what will probably be one of my last trips out to this area for a while to wrap up a several year long fiber project. Only way out to this area in summer is boat or helicopter, but in winter, it's a six mile snowmachine ride from the closest road. The snow is disappearing fast so it looks like I made it out just in the nick of time. In another week or two, the route will be a bottomless swamp.

Work in this area two winters ago. Three feet of snow and twenty below.

Hello Spring!!!

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Seeing this makes me want to move back. I miss my two favorite tools... A Chainsaw and snowmachine.

Who wouldn't be smiling while sitting on a toy like that one?

" it's a six mile snowmachine ride from the closest road."

Scary stuff.

Scary stuff? I don't understand.

It's only six miles. A brisk 2 hour walk if need be.

How old is that skidoo anyway?

I have a couple late 90's Skandik beaters for this kind of stuff. Light weight and maneuverable. Nearly always take two machines, one breaks down, tow it out with the other. We have a couple Vikings and nobody here likes them. They're so heavy if it gets rolled or stuck, takes a small army to get it back upright.

Back to it.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

When I was working out of Homer, we always tried to get the bush jobs for winter. No leaves and easy access with the sno-go. Try to do it in the summer, constantly digging the wheelers out.

Nice to finally get a little snow, dagnabbed lower 48er's took it all this year! 😀

Still leaving the plow on the truck, soon as I take it off, bam, we get 2 feet of the white stuff!!

Skandic: good machine, work horse.

If you ever look for a good come-along as a back-up, Maasdam Pow’R-Rope Puller is a pretty good set-up, no need of battery power, unlimited rope. Good for quads, should work well with snowmachines also.

Here's the link to Forestry Suppliers's page:

Thanks for sharing that James. Looking into it right now. I use something similar, a small compact come-along with about 15' of cable. Comes in real handy sometimes. Always carry about 60' of rope, tools, shovel and snowshoes.
