Are these basically Trimble robots in different colors??ÿ I can't imagine they wouldn't be...?
If they are different, how??ÿ thanks
I am not 100% certain, but I think the SpectraPrecision Robots only track optically.
It will follow a 360 prism or a normal prism, but it doesn't have any other tracking technology. It will track the Trimble MT1000 prism, but only by the actual prism - not the LED light sequence as on the Trimble robots.
I could be wrong. Mostly commenting so I can see other more informed responses.
I think, yes, now Trimble, formerly Geodimeter?
I have no direct knowledge, but my guess is that there is relatively little shared technology between Trimble S series and Spectra Precision Focus?ÿ instruments. I can tell you this as a fact - When you buy either of these instuments you will get a similar certificate which states the serial number, date of manufacture, instrument precision specs, and the manufacturers name. Trimble instruments are made by - you guessed it - Trimble. Spectra Precision Instruments are made by Trimble Shanghai.?ÿ Different worlds.
I've seen tell-tale indications of a general lack of cooperation between the various entities that Trimble has acquired. I've also seen a similar lack with Hexagon's (ie/ Leica) acquisitions.?ÿ?ÿ
I think in the beginning Spectra was a blue Trimble, like this one, which looks exactly like a Trimble 5600, only blue:
Now the current Spectra robot looks like this:
I'm fairly sure that, among other things, it doesn't have Trimble mag-drive as in their current S series robots that replaced the 5600. And it looks like that one is tracking only a passive prism.
Thanks all.?ÿ I have a solo surveyor friend asking if they're any good to pick up used, I think so for no more than he'd need to use it.?ÿ Most work is GNSS these days, anyway.
@plumb-bill in general, Spectra are lower end products for durability and performance. Spectra Precision is owned by Trimble. And a Spectra robot might not be able to have Trimble Access controller control it. Might need to have a Spectra controller with TDS software.
Access can run Spectra total stations, I think since 2017.
While the Spectra equipment is indeed not as durable, nor as fast, as the Trimble S series, they are serviceable as long as they are not heavily used or abused.
