Hello,
I am Rick Wilson and President of Rick Wilson Construction Layout, Inc. Doing Business as (DBA) West Coast Consultants. Florida Licensed Business L.B. 7610.
What seems to be the mystery here?
I myself, am not a Regestered Surveyor. I have a licensed Surveyor on staff. I also carry Professional Errors and Omissions insurance. I am the ONLY Surveying Company in Parrish, Florida. 35 years experience. All in Manatee County, Florida.
I stumbled on this web-site and noticed my name being questioned.
I am Rick Wilson. President of Rick Wilson Construction Layout, Inc. Doing Business as (DBA) West Coast Consultants. Florida Licensed Business (L.B.) 7610
No I am not licensed although I have 35 years experience. I do have a licensed Surveyor on staff. (Vice President)I also carry Professional Errors and Omissions Insurance through Lloyd's of London.
The Profession is now regulated through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and not the Department of Business and Professional Regulations if you want to check out the site.
I do the surveys from start to finish (except signing and sealing the drawings)unlike 90% of the survey companies out there.
I don't appreciate people forming opinions without facts. I am not a bottom-feeder and I am by far not the cheapest.
Sincerely, Rick Wilson

In Louisiana, this would be a violation.
The PLS would has to have direct supervision of the survey from start to finish.
Take it from someone who knows this guy, he is a lazy, out of work office guy who worked for a survey company, got laid off a couple years ago and now pays a unscrupulous out of work to sign his crap. He performs his work as a 1 man survey crew and undercuts EVERYBODY.
He is a joke that preys on people who just need a paper survey to satisfy a bank.
He should be sued by the board or anybody who has ever had work done by him. Jeff Hostetler is his closet PLS.
Good post. Our Florida BOR is really slacking the last decade or so. They've let the situation of independent crew chiefs contracting their own work to a rubber stamping PLS get completely out of control. It's so prevalent now, I don't know how they'd stop it (or even if they are aware of it, for that matter ... ). I sent a detailed email to the BOR several months ago explaining this situation and asking if it was a legitimate practice, and they didn't even bother to write back. For the time and effort I put into the email, you'd think someone could have at least sent a one-liner back ...
This practice has gotten out of hand and this Rick Wilson does not have the knowledge to be doing this on his own. He fails to mention he is the ONLY survey company (if you can call it that) in Parrish, FL. I will see Jeff Hostetler in the next couple weeks and I will mention this to him, I doubt he has ANY knowledge of what rick Wilson does and i am not sure he cares as long as he gets a cut. Sad development in the surveying industry.
These bottom feeders are the same folks servicing the brokers
Maybe, instead of waiting for the BOR to take action, which at best will be very very slow coming, then upon a final ruling, will only issue a cease and desist order.
We surveyors should band together and bring a civil class action suite against who we believe is violating state laws and intruding upon our legal right to practice.

I didn't think I knew any COWARDS that bad mouth people under a ficticious name.
I am far from being lazy.
I have NEVER been laid off from a job. I left in 2005 to start my own business.
I do not undercut anyone. I tell people if they are calling around and getting prices I am not the one for the job.
I don't prey on anyone. ALL of my work is for Attorneys.
Jeff Hostetler is NOT my signing Surveyor.
I don't know who you are but you are a COWARD.
If you really do know me, come and talk crap to my face. Unless you are affraid to.
I can't think of a little boy I know who would talk crap.

Butch check this out. And yes he is still going, at least in November. Looked pretty good then. Still in the field, so I'm told.

The turn of this phrase may be telling. Shouldn't it read "Jeff Hostetler is not the PSM in responsible charge of my work"?
When this PSM signs a map it should be his (her) work performed with your help, not the other way around. Who is the "face" of your business - you or the PSM? How much time does this PSM bill on each job, and what is his role? At what point in the process does he have input?
> I do the surveys from start to finish (except signing and sealing the drawings)unlike 90% of the survey companies out there.
I would be interested in what the above statement means. Do you do this work under the direction and supervision of the surveyor who signs and seals the drawings? If you do it under your own direction and supervision, why wouldn't you have your license? Licensing laws are made to protect the public. Your phraseology implies that someone else only does the labor of providing a signature and seal. That you do the actual work 'start to finish'.
I don't know you and don't pretend to, but your phraseology bothers me.
I just came back and saw this post by "Rick Wilson, President of west coast consultants AND rick wilson construction layout"??? Are you president of BOTH companies? does your "signing surveyor EVER see the project or do YOU sign and seal his name out of convenience?
If you are a reputable company then just who is YOUR signing surveyor and what is his title in YOUR company?
Does he use PLS, LS, PSM or just plain SS?
