here is something from Craigslist...

scary that he says he is not a surveyor but has an LB number...

http://sarasota.craigslist.org/sks/1883997872.html

and he has another ad in the real estate section, but without the LB ##

http://sarasota.craigslist.org/rts/1857921734.html

tried to look "Rick" up, but the new board search function is wonky right now.

in the second ad, he says... OWNER PERFORMS ALL SURVEYS..., but he isn't a licensed surveyor??

LB in Florida is a designation for a Licensed Survey Business. An individual has either a PLS or PSM (Prof. Surveyor and Mapper) number and a business has it's own number.

So "rick" is saying he doesn't have a PLS(PSM)#, but does have a business. Which could be true, if there is another principal in the firm that has a surveyors license. He does say he has no employees, but he could have a silent partner that is licensed. I can't search that LB number right now, though.

I thought it might be for "Low Baller". That maybe FL had a special license for those people.

He better damn sure have a licensed PSM working for him, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to obtain a LB.

Of course, what’s the State Board/Dept. of Agriculture going to do? Slap him/her on the wrist and say “no-no don’t do that again”.

Idiots like whom you referenced are the primary cause of the degradation of our profession in the Public eye.

Rant over.

Have a great weekend, and how are the sand gnats down there?

the search engine for businesses in Venice (where the phone number searches to) doesn't show any such LB number.

oh, the sand gnats are doing just fine, thanks for asking! nothing kills those little bastards.

the fishing is great, I see people all over the causeway islands and the pier. shark fishing at night off the beach is popular too.

This link goes to an excel sheet listing the

surveyor.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=12&ved=0CB0QFjABOAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.800helpfla.com%2Fpsm%2Fpdfs%2FSurveyorList.xls&rct=j&q=941-720-3409&ei=bbNlTNMGg4HyBvedkZII&usg=AFQjCNHUCSvUiElQHceVfST6FsDs1wLnNQ&cad=rja

It appears to be from the Florida Board so, maybe there is no need to assume he is unlicensed. If so, I apologize for my incorrect assumption a couple of posts up. His rate is his business.

However, why would one state he is not a licensed surveyor if he actually is?

I can tell you someone with a license issued in 1952 and #872 is most likely not walking the planet, let alone surveying it.

Andy

I have followed a surveyor that started in the 1880's and was still surveying 1n the 1960's. So your statement just MIGHT be a little on the arrogant side. But that is OK, you ARE a surveyor. 😛

okay, point taken. if he was 20 when he got licensed, he would be 78 today. So that's not quite as old as I thought, just looking at the LS number. I apologize to Mr.Wilson. Heck, he might be the guy that started Wilson Miller, one of the bigger firms in Florida... oops, I mean Canada, since they were just bought out.
