It's totally true, but necessary in some cases. We've got a lot of idiots with half acre lots allowing their "free-range" chickens to go anywhere they like. I've hit at least a couple driving on a main road, and can't help but think an accident's going to happen someday by someone trying to avoid them and driving into another car.

Need new planet. Start over!
It's called "Mars".
The sooner we leave for it the better...

I'll bet it is not much fun to watch.

I'm with you there. What does "annexed" mean anyway. Are they installing fire hydrants and maintaining the streets out in the fringes of the county? How about trash pick up? Not in my neck of the woods. We're on our own, unless they want to collect a fine from us, but they provide zero benefit to the land owners.
I agree with a little bit of all of the sentiment expressed in this thread.
Little story about burning brush...
First the facts:
1.) Yesterday was a burn day.
2.) I have a burn permit from the county.
3.) It had just gotten through raining.
4.) My property is a rural, larger sized piece of land which is isolated.
Yesterday evening around 8:30 I was finishing up some work around the property...parked the back hoe and stopped for a minute to enjoy the silhouette of the timbered mountain ridges disappearing into the darkness. It was cold, so I walked over to a small pile of brush that I had piled up last year and lit it on fire. It probably measured 8'x3'x2'. Large campfire in my opinion. Better to burn it now than have it be a fire hazard this summer.
The bright flames started climbing into the sky and sparks were getting carried up the heat column giving an impressive show.
Soon I began worrying about getting called in for an illegal burn (all fires are supposed to be dead out by 6:00).
Seems like every time I burn brush, fire department shows up because someone called it in thinking there was a forest fire starting (even when it's raining). They have to respond every time they get a report of a fire. I don't blame them, but it seems common sense has been left out of the equation. This particular part of the property is visible to a nearby town where everybody has a phone permanently attached to their hand with 911 on speed dial.
I felt a little conflicted....here I am burning a small pile of brush at night, after it had rained, on my own property and I am worried about getting in trouble. How stupid is that?!
Well by now the flames had died down a little and I was feeling better about not getting in trouble....only now the fire started smoking like crazy....it was just light enough that I could see a heavy thick cloud of smoke hanging low and drifting about a mile into several nearby gulches that have lots of houses.
Now the worry was that someone was going to call it in because of the heavy smoke (that's partially why they have limited burn hours).
So I walked about 1/4 mile back to the backhoe in the dark and drove it over to my fire and spread it around mixing it with dirt to put it out and went home.
I'm right under 30, but I still remember the difference between pre and post September 11, 2001. What they call the millennial has no idea how much freedom we used to have, and the erosion of which is so normalized they don't realize it's happening. Maybe I shouldn't get started on that. Seriously, check the percentage of millenials that want to criminalize speech and thought....numbers are somewhat troubling.
I guess I am saying that as Cow stated, regulations have increased for sure, but there is a troubling trend of people voluntarily giving up their rights as well-because it's normal now...and seen as a solution
