I've been involved in surveying for well over 45 years.?ÿ I saw a first, for me, today.?ÿ I saw a survey crew made up entirely of women.?ÿ I've worked on crews with women before and I know some really good licensed female surveyors, but I had never seen a crew made up entirely of women.?ÿ Our profession is still male dominated but I think it's a good thing that more women are interested.

During the boom of the early-mid 2000s, when we didn't have a spare crew for a rush, I would take my wife as well as our female office manager to the field with me.
A fellow surveyor I've known for years became the sole parent to his daughter when his wife passed.?ÿ Their daughter was probably 8 0r 9 at the time.?ÿ After that it wasn't uncommon to see them out surveying together when school was out.?ÿ I guess he was saving on day-care.?ÿ Anyway (it seemed as though it happened overnight) his daughter grew up to become a young lady and quite a looker.?ÿ I saw her running the crew with another young girl as a helper.?ÿ I recognized the name on the side of the truck.?ÿ I'm pretty sure she was an able crew chief.
I talked to him later and his daughter's crew chief gig had ended after a year and she opted for higher education.?ÿ He did say he tried to lure her into the business but she had her sights on other things.?ÿ He also said they did a lot of construction staking while his daughter was running the crew as one might imagine.
