I've been browsing ebay today. Found some pics that were interesting. I remember Ashtech and Sokkia made "Locus" GPS, but don't remember Topcon making one...

If you check out the listing, it even has a hirose com port instead of the IR port.

http://cgi.ebay.com/TOPCON-LOCUS-TRIMBLE-GPS-ANTENNA-/220785712534?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3367da9d96

The other pic that caught my eye is this one, which just brought back some memories ...

I used almost the exact same set-up (except with a Ranger) 5 or 6 years ago, and HATED it. That was like wrestling with an octopus.

Topcon's track record with OEM GPS is getting a little ridiculous. First it as AOA, then Ashtech, then Trimble, then Javad, now Sokkia. It doesn't do much to inspire confidence when they switch manufacturers every few years.

Topcon had quite a hit with the Javad-made Hipers. Who do they think they're fooling by naming the Sokkia product the Hiper II?

Hey I still have that 802A...but my set-up is much better than that.

I put the radio on the pole up side down, I put the other radio on the tripod, no holder.

I use the 802A as well. I've been using the Bantam radios for a few years now. One at the gun and one in a padded pouch on the chest strap of my web gear. Pole has nothing but the DC on it. Very solid setup. Those Satels were a headache.

That Topcon robotic looks like one I spent many a night wrestling with many years ago as a rental... If it is, you can keep it. If I hadn't carried it "overseas", I wouldn't have wrestled with it so much.

Today, I accomplish the same tasks with a Leica HDS ScanStation. It too is somewhat challenging to use, but atleast I can call tech support.

That Topcon Locus receiver

That is just bizarre! Did you notice the lettering "SELIAL PORT"? Like Seinfeld when he had a date with a chick whose last name was "Wong" but she wasn't Asian....."did you just say ridicurous"??!

GR3s are pretty good too but the TopSurv controller is goofy to say the least.

TSC1 was the best GPS controller made so far, in my opinion. The 4700 base and 4800 hamburger rover with TSC1 controller is the least frustrating and most bullet proof setup I have used. They don't see as many satellites as my PM3s though.
