Many years ago someone told me that he had heard of someone with the goal of making dimensioned drawings for the parts of a solar compass. Has anyone heard of that?
I have a friend who is looking my collection of books and pictures about the solar compass with great interest. He just might be crazy enough to build a model in his machine shop, if he didn't have 137 other projects underway. Drawings would raise the probability he would do it.
Materials so far include
Burt's Solar Compass, book by Miller
A Key to the Solar Compass, reprint of Burt's book
They Left Their Mark, by John Burt
various pictures of the one in the Surveyors Historical Society collection.

I did't see any darawings but it still looked interesting.
Would the National Archives have the Patent drawings?
I don't know if those are detailed enough.

Thanks. I didn't have that one. I think it is largely duplicated in Key to the Solar Compass, but may have some additional description that is useful, such as the details of the various scales.
Doesn't have dimensions, but this might help:

Let us know if you find or make some drawings. I've often thought of 3D printing a working model of one, but I haven't made it very far with that project.

This is from the US Patent Office. Don't see any numbers, but better readers of old cursive may find something of value.
