I'm a longtime Topcon user.

In magnet, If a job is on State Plane, I could Set my Base on nothing, shoot 1 point and adjust the base

to match that point. Check another or 2 and I was good to go. Using the Geoid model also.

I'm being told by our Trimble rep I can't do that or anything similar.

So I guess this is my question to Trimble Users:

I have a job with known coordinates?ÿ on a bunch of C/L street points.

I don't want to set the base on one of those, I don't want to calibrate because

I shouldn't have too. Is some way to Start the Base on a unknown point (autonomous)

Measure 1 point and correct the base to it.

TIA!!!!

Yes, it's easy to just shift it over, you need to have your projection correctly set in the DC file, shoot the point, shift the base using the calc programs, restart the base and go. I would advise checking into a number of control points if you have?ÿsome, after restarting.

I've been doing that since the first week of using trimble back in the mid 90's; usually for security, put the base in the truck and run the antenna wire to it mounted on the roof of the truck, or for other reasons, say there are cattle in the field where the base point is, set it across the fence and start on a new point.?ÿ

Perfect!!

I knew it could be done.

Can't wait to do it this weekend. I used to use a MAG mount and put the base on top of the van 🙂

Much easier in Magnet. Why did you switch to Trimble?

You can also just set your base up in State Plane and do a single point calibration, it does exactly what you're asking for. When you do a single point calibration there's no rotation or scale, just linear shifts. We used to do it on local control using VRS all the time.

When you go to start the base, you hit the arrow next to the Point Name field, select Key In, and Here will be at the bottom of the screen. Enter a point name and hit Here to get an autonomous position.

Exactly as Lee said. Then go measure your control point and then select site calibration. Done it thousands of times.
