I have used them all
Geo 650 Robot
Trimble 5600 Robot
Trimble S6 Rental
New Leica TS12 Robot with power search very nice

What I have found after 15 plus years of robot
I basically hate them "robots" and like RTK

But lately the Leica TS12 is a good as GPS in the open
this is using Leica MPR 122 360 prism the follow is as good
as the over rated S6 or Krap Geo 650/Trimble 5600/Focus robots.

Power search is fine maybe 3 times a day on a wide open rtk gps style site.

I can not figure out why this talk of robots appears so much
when RTK is so much better. I am speaking high performance
lite weight RTK 1.5 lb total rover mass.

Robots = heavy, slow, accurate is all conditions 2 second robot $25000.00
Nice Rtk = fast, rugged, accurate for 75++ % of the work I do $25000.00
base rover with 1 watt satels.

What is odd is most S6 owners use Leica prism.

On the last mass point terrain model with a good rod man
RTK GPS 130 points/hour
Leica TS 12 Robot 130 points/hour

So on certain GPS Style sites the Leica TS 12 robot follow and point rate is no different than RTK GPS the TS12 Robot keyboard DC response on the Carlson + SurvCe was as fast as the RTK GPS ie yes as fast as you could push the log shot botton.

So in summary I think I will take out the Leica TS 12 Robot more often
and leave the GPS in the site trailer

I'm only using a Leica 360 because Caltrans has hundreds of them already, no need to buy new prisms. They gave us two S6s, two TCU robot kits, two TSC2s and two Leica 360 prisms.

It is really easy to use any prism with Trimble, maybe that's why so many do it.

The S6 is way faster and better than the Topcon RTK I have but Topcon is troublesome at best. The FC200 is junk, garbage etc.

If you are using Access on a TSC3 with an S6, GPS search will locate the prism for you.

I do have the TSC3 with Access and the MT1000 multi-track prism. All seems to work well with the S3. I was just wondering if I should go with a little extra cash and get the S6. I was told that the S3 is built for surveying and that the S6 is GIS/Geomatic. Isn't that surveying? Anyway...that is why I was asking the question.
