I think points are handled different than other CAD objects, no layers

you can isolate any point(s):

Isolate Points (ISO):
This is another useful command to reduce screen clutter. If you have 500 points on the
screen, you can isolate to only those points you wish to see, by entering a distinct point
range, in the form 1-10, 22, 25-30, or a certain description. This would isolate to points
1 through 10, point 22 and points 25 to 30, and other points are ƒ??frozenƒ?. You can also
isolate to descriptions (D for Descriptions) by entering a description such as "EG" for
Existing Ground or a wildcard description using an "*" such as "IP*" for any
description beginning with IP (IP, IPF, IPS, etc.). Repeat the ISO command and enter
the full point file range (or ƒ??allƒ?) to restore all points.?ÿ

I work as a construction surveyor for a concrete company. We just bought a Carlson RT4 with SurvPC and I have a question about importing TXT files. Can you import a point group to a certain layer or are you limited to importing solely to the Points Layer?
Reason for the questionƒ??. I generated a DXF file for the 9 story Iƒ??m currently starting. I need a way to turn certain point numbers on/off so I can clearly see each floor. I can switch layers but havenƒ??t figured out the point numbers just yet. Thanks.

SurvPC doesn't support point grouping per se, but to accomplish what you're seeking, my suggestion would be:

1. Establish a feature code (e.g. File tab -- Feature Code Library) along the lines of:
   Code?ÿ Layer
   F1?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ Floor1
   F2?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ Floor2
   F3?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ Floor3
   etc
2. The descriptions of the points for Floor 1 would (could) all have a description of F1. The descriptions of the points for Floor 2 would (could) all have a description of F2.
3. If you want to maintain parts of an existing description, you could use something like "F1 /wall", "F2 /wall", "F2 /door", etc, within the Text/ASCII file you're importing.
4. Import the text file to produce a coordinate file of your data.
5. Tap the Globe (Map Screen) icon and go to Tools -- Field to Finish and provide the "U" (update) keyword option.

SurvPC would place the points on to the layers designated by the codes and the descriptions of the points.

Another option would be to have (for example) 9 separate jobs (each floor would be its own job) that could reference a "control" file (found under File -- Job Settings).

Not sure if this will work, but canƒ??t you make a dxf with your layered points instead of importing a txt file?
