I answered the phone this afternoon and a fella asks if I do elevation certificates. I told him I use to and still have a few developers that require some 'custom' work on projects I've been associated with, but generally, "no".
Usually the word no is enough to end the call fairly quick. This guy carried on in an obtuse tone trying to convince me to help him. His house burned down recently and the City won't issue a (re)building permit until he gets an EC. I told him that sounded normal but I still couldn't help him.
I offered to look up phone numbers of a couple of surveyors I knew in his area that he might call. Angrily he asks if they too are going to try to rip him off with all this permit bullshi*.... I told him to call back when he felt better. He said you're kidding, right?.
I said nope, have a good day.
Some people just won't let you help them. :pinch:
Then there is the one we're working on and the address is Wetlands Drive. 😉
I had a call today about an EC I did last month. Apparently someone actually finally looked at it. Everything was great except that when I put the date on it I somehow decided this was 2010 instead of 2013. Hey, it's just one little number out of dozens. Do you really want me to issue a new one with the correct year? YES!
If he calls back ask why his house burned. I wonder if it was from his faulty wiring installed without a bs permit and inspection. Or perhaps a gas line he installed without a bs permit and inspection.
Wouldn't homeowner's insurance cover all aspects of rebuilding?
