I just got off the phone with the Director of Community Development.

Her - There is an elevation problem on your plan.
Me - How so?
Her - Well, look at the Elevation 7 contour. Now look at the 13 crossing it.
Me - See how the 13 has a FPC in the linetype?
Her - Yes
Me - That would be the delineation between the AE Elevation 13 and the AE Elevation 11 zones.
Her - Wouldn't the AE 13 go to elevation 13?
Me - Yes when it terminates at the ground, no where it goes into another AE Zone.
Her - We will take it under advisement, but will not agree.
Me - Huh?

I followed up with a long e-mail. My best line: Why would they create an AE Elevation 11 if the flood zone goes to the 13?

Had an inspector at a water district email an engineer that there too many pages in our plat. He said that they should discuss how to lessen the number. The surveyor only finds out because the engineer forwards the email...and how does an inspector, or an engineer, or anyone have anything to say about how many pages a surveyor wants to use in a plat???

This is tyranny.
I don't know what you do about it though.

Tell them; I will be happy to comply; please show me where, in the regulations, municipal code, etc, it says what the limit on pages should be.

Sounds like an issue I had a few years ago dealing with County Planning over a Lot Line Adjustment application.

Me: Here's my application to adjust these 3 lots.
Them: There are actually 5 lots.
Me: No, there are three. See? Here are the vesting deeds.
Them: These deeds are too complex for us. We think there are 5 lots.
Me: They aren't complex to me. See, here's how it is three.
Them: Our GIS shows 5 lots.
Me: Your GIS shows Assessment parcels, not legal parcels.
Them: Well, we clicked "legal parcels" and it shows 5.
Me: *sigh* Okay, you're right, there are 5 parcels. But you clearly have some information that I don't have. So please give me this information whether it is a deed or map or other title document that shows there are 5 parcels so I can advise my client how to proceed.
Them: Oh, so you say there are 3 parcels? Okay, let's look at your application.

Why would they show the 11 if it is overtaken by the 13?

How does a name like Mooncussers end up a road name?

Did someone not like the tides at some point and start swearing at the moon? :-S

The story goes that in earlier times certain persons would try to lure shipping to run aground and then pilfer the cargo. This worked best on cloudy, moonless nights.

These persons would "cuss the moon" when the clouds would clear and the moonlight was enough to see the shoreline and avoid disaster.

As an aside, look at the definition of "flotsam" and "jetsom"

Likewise, Thadd,

Got a driving day ahead to north of Albany. Laura and the kids left yesterday. I will probably do an early morning ride, unless the big storm fails to happen.
