Guy calls and says he is a contractor and is building a retention pond that was approved by the city and designed by a PE

He wants me to stake the pond area, but the pond needs to be moved 35' because the design places the retention area partly into a canal that borders the property.

(after inquiry) I find out the engineer that designed the pond did not have boundary info before design.

Also, the pond area construction has begun and now they realize that the design puts a portion not only off the property, put up an embankment and into the bordering canal.

I ask, if there is a new design by the PE and is it approved by the city?

The contractor says, there is no need for redesign, he just needs a surveyor to stake the pond in a different location that does not interfere with the canal or the property line.

- I tell mr. contractor that I'm not interested in the project.

:good:

Saved a few bucks by not having to hire those greedy surveyors. They made their bed, let them lie in it.

Idiots

The world is full of idiots!

Either cough up the bucks to do it right or don't do it at all.

You made a wise choice by staying out of it.

This is one reason why I don't do construction staking as a solo operator. For thing, I find construction staking solo to be tedious, and of course it's high liability work, but in my last job I got my fill of unreasonable contractors with bad plans, who want you to "fix" everything, for no additional charge, and pull off whatever site you're currently on to take care of their last minute "I forgot to call you 3 days ago" B.S.

I know there are a few surveyors who love construction staking. I'm not one of them. More power to those that do, but I find boundary and topo work to be much more satisfying.
