I try not to dwell on regrets too much as they typically hold you back.
However I do regret not purchasing the Javad unit that was sent to me for PLS trials. I didn't like the software at the time but it has all grown leaps and bounds now. The price then was a whole heck of a lot lower than what exists today too.
Oh well.
Other regrets, working too damn much. Or at all!

Have you seen what it does now?
No. I've only read a little here and there.

Well, jason, it's about 1 hr sw of you to get a demo. Schedule 1/2 day, or MORE, as there is beaucoup new in it
Jason, I'll be happy to give you a demo with the updated software. I will also be at the Kaps conference next month also and can demo it then as well.
Thanks guys. Im not really in the market for any new equipment, I've purchased enough over the past 2 years.
I just regret not buying it when I should have at the price point that it was at.

Jason,
I will grant you that the Javad platform can be a different critter when you first get your hands on it. We all resist change. But it is different for many good reasons which become apparent with use. And it is extremely customizable (but therefore also complex).
If you're doing any kind of full time business the current pricing will be more than justified by the productivity. You should strongly consider what the Javad can do for you. If you like what you see, figure out a way to cash out what you own now and pay for the Javad. Don't let the fact that you could have purchased it cheaper in the past ruin your potential for the future.

Jason,
Just a general list:
Field work. All day. Autonamous base. Come home.
Dpos it. Now all that work is on spc.
Before you upload the coords into office software, it is spc.
Day two. Set base 5 miles away from first base. Set on autonomous base. Make one observation on prev. Base. Now it shifts all of base 2 to spc, based on tying 1st base. Now all work is spc. Go home. Dpos it. It tells you that your 2nd base is "off by 0.02' northings -0.03' eastings, -0.04' elevations.
(how sloppy your dpos is, is a product of many things, one of them being how far you are from cors sta)
You can choose which one to hold.
Drive 15 miles away, do a static obs. On a ngs mark. 15 min. Of time.
Back, work all day.
Tear it up!
I was slow typing, when you posted above, that you are not in tbe market at this time...
Ok, but i should continue my story...
Well, I kinda got scammed. I was watching 2 things... My old gear was going slower and slower. And, i intended to buy a Javad, and use it with Carlson data collector. (triumph 1 set). And, the second item, trying to buy right before price went up.
Well, there was this IDIOT, in florida, with an ebay ad, for the LS. When i tried to buy through him, it was BAIT and SWITCH.
He tried to sell me other stuff, while badmouthing the javad. He said stuff like "too hard to use, and not practical".
He used me, and he used Javad's name, to sell through bait and switch. He lied to me, and told me he had "TRIED to take the ebay ad down. But, that he could not get it down".
I wound up buying a Javad, just over a yr ago.
It's probably a GOOD thing I did not buy when prices were low. I'd have gotten frustrated. I bought in, just after "beast mode" came.
Many things have changed, in the past yr.
Was it worth the just over 21k, I paid? Yes. The point I'm making, is they have added so much stuff, that i feel it is now one of the most underpriced systems available. They will keep adding stuff. Eventually, they will up their prices. In fact, it's bound to happen, especially when standard equipment includes the Triumph 1-m on base, with all the other constelations in the equasion. Right now, it's some 7k more, than a t2 on base, and that only includes gps, glonass, and gallileo. Adding other constelations, comes at a price tag.
My point is, i think the javad gear is great. But, i have NOT bought, and tested it against other gear.
What do I get paid to provide commentary? Um... I have YET to get a hat, and tee shirt!
But, they do listen to some of my ideas. And, they do implement some of them.
I have told them that I want to work for them... But, no such luck, so far.
Who cares? I'm the guy in the movies, who plays a supporting role, to the hero, but I'm not the hero.
The number one good thing about Javad is: utlra high confidence in your data, even in bad environments.
Number 2 is it's versatile. You can do many things with it. Many ways to work.
Number 3, the company listens to feedback from users. Adds features, improving it on a regular basis.
I'd like to compare it "out on the track", against other gear.
I find it funny that those who review and compare gps gear have been signing "non disclosure agreements" with those who send them equipment to test.
This sort of helps the manufacturers, but does nothing for the users!
I'd like to see a comparison, that benefits the surveyors, and the surveying community, and NOT the manufacturers!
But, be that as it may be, I do have this to say. Every manufacturer of gps gear has been steadily improving.
The improvements are going to continue.
Gps is here to stay.
It is our duty to:
Stay current with our gear.
Be knowledgable of both it's capabilities, as well as it's limitations.
Stay aware of what is available to us. You don't want to try to water a cow with an eyedropper. And, you don't want to fish for minnows, with a gaff hook.
This means we have to take the time to know what's available.
God Bless, and may you have wisdom.
If you live to be 75 yrs old, that's 27,375 days
Subtract 20 yrs from that, and you get 55 yrs.
Thats 19,800 days.
Unfortunately, we cannot learn it all in either time frame. So, we work with partial knowledge. Surveyors do not have perfect knowledge. Only God has that. But, he approves us getting all we can. Jesus knows every coordinate, for every corner, for every survey, since Adam and Eve!
I'm doing all I can, to learn, and encourage learning in others.
And, I'm 51 yrs old now. Chapter 2 is starting... I'm gonna be a grand-paw! Yay!
Learn all you can.
Can all you learn.
Share it with everybody.
To selflessly give, will improve everything.
I'm trying.
The next generation will thank you for it.
