GPS "measures" a vector that is essentially a ground distance (slope) and "true" (geodetic) bearing, much the same as?ÿa Total Station setup on a point with a Solar/Polaris shot. Granted...it is expressed in a geocentric x/y/z Cartesian dx/dy/dz, but that is easily transformed to a Ground Distance/Geodetic Bearing (in the data collector). Inasmuch as the "record" (in my work) is a Ground Distance/True Bearing, once I have ONE "point" to start from, everything flows from there.
