Haven't done any investigation yet, but I was wondering if there was a way to examine which data files are on the base receiver while out in the field using the TSC2 controller. Were using Survey Controller. Had a crew out in the middle of nowhere yesterday, 4 hours away, no cell reception(hence the OPUS, would have used VRS) and it seems that the OPUS didn't start. It would have been nice if they could have checked the unit to see if the file was recorded. They could have at least ran a 20 min RS if not. If it was Topcon, all you had to do to record static was push a button on the base.
In the "instrument" section there should be a "receiver files" option. There will be a padlock on the file that is currently recording. The files can also be downloaded to the controller from here (once logging has finished).
It is slightly different on survey controller to access (which I normally use).
If the unit is recording the power light will flash every few seconds.
It's good policy to do this whenever you start up a static obs. Also, make a note of the file number against which the padlock symbol is displayed so you download the correct file at the end of the session. (Unless you always clear the instrument out each day, in which case there will only be one file there).
Checking the file size at the end of the session is sensible. That will give you an idea of whether it has been recording properly. A very small file suggests that there might have been a problem. You would need to check the sort of file size you normally get but around 1K a minute is a reasonable guide. (start up uses 4K).
Thanks everybody for the responses
