Hi all
Could anyone tell me where I could purchase a new tip for a Leica prism pole other than from a Leica dealer. The pole is smaller in diameter than most generic poles (1") and has a 3" long point that needs to be replaced due to normal wear.
I was unable to find one on EBay or any other online source.
thanks,
If it has the same 5/8 x 1/8 threads, any replacement point should fit.
They vary in length so the HI of the pole could change.
😉
AFAIK, ONLY Leica points will fit, they are NOT 5/8" x 11 threads.
I don't recall them being that expensive from leica, I would likely just buyt one from the closest dealer.
The new ones have a carbide tip, wear is very minimal if at all in normal use.

I'd love to get a carbide-tipped point for my SECO pole. Anyone ever seen one?
The points do wear, I'm down about 6mm on mine. Even worse, I don't think the points on the 'new' smart poles are replaceable. I would love to be found wrong since I have four with worn tips.

I know they sell titanium tips for prism poles,

I use stainless steel washers to offset the wear on normal steel tipped prism points, I can stick a new one in every 2mm or so and can get about 4 washers in ( 8mm of wear) before I run out of thread.
Probably sounds cheap, but I get an extra year out of those prism points, perfect for road topos which are hard on prism points.
It works for me:-P

Titanium is light when compared to steel, but not as hard as most heat-treated steel alloys. Tungsten carbide is much harder than both, and thus much more resistant to wear.

That's a new one to me. Good idea.
:good: :good: :good:
Sounds like a good fix. Problem is that the Leica setup does not have any threads. The prism has a bayonet fitting and the pole tip appears to be fused to the pole.
